Around the Piano with John Helgen is an informal musical program which
combines a piano recital, hymn singing, and storytelling time about church
music composers, hymn poetry and tunes, and church music history.
Join me for a time around the piano, featuring performances of my original
piano arrangements including selections from my new collection The Earth
Adorned . We’ll sing some hymns and songs and hear stories about the
composers and church musicians who brought them to life. I will also share,
through anecdote and humor, a few lessons learned through a lifetime as a
church musician.
ABOUT JOHN
I am a piano player, arranger/composer and church musician from
Minneapolis, Minnesota, currently serving as Director of Music at Roseville
Lutheran Church (ELCA) in suburban St. Paul. A Minnesota native, I am a
graduate of St. Olaf College and the University of Minnesota School of Law. I
live in Minneapolis and am active in the music community as a performer,
arranger/composer, and producer.
