  • The Congregation Council members are among the lay leaders of our congregation who embrace the following characteristics:

    Passion for Jesus Christ Commitment to life and ministry of the church Merciful, “humble in spirit,” a heart that “hungers and thirsts for righteousness” and commitment to being a peacemaker (Matthew 5:1-11) Motivated to seek first God’s purpose and direction for St. John’s (Matthew 6:33) Dedicated to the disciplines of faith: prayer, worship, service, word, generosity (Acts 6:1-6) Good listeners and communicators Good stewards of time, talent, and money Highlights of the duties/responsibilities of Congregation Council: Provide leadership and oversight of congregational mission, life, and programs Create and develop vision, long-term planning, and annual goal setting Review and approve budget for congregational approval Evaluate the work of council, boards, and staff Provide Christian, spiritual leadership Assist and support pastoral staff in fulfilling their call to Word and Sacrament Evaluate staff as requested by the Personnel Committee Time Requirements: January 1, 2021 – December 31, 2023 – 3 years Council Meeting: Monthly – 3rd Tuesday 7:00 pm Executive Committee Meeting: Monthly—Thursday prior to 3rd Tuesday at 5:15 pm One month per year each council member will lead the devotion and prayer at council meetings CDC visitation prior to council meeting by person leading devotion & prayer Worship Greeter – one Sunday a month before 9:00 and after 11:00 am service. Executive committee members greet on the 5th Sunday of months with five (5) Sundays Orientation – one evening 1st or 2nd week in January Leaders Retreat – TBA Leadership Training – TBA Called meetings of Council
