God’s Work. Our Hands.

Each year, Lutherans from all around the country gather with their congregations for a day of service to celebrate who we are as the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America – one church, freed in Christ to serve and love our neighbor.

Service activities offer an opportunity for us to explore one of our most basic convictions as Lutherans: that all of life in Jesus Christ – every act of service, in every daily calling, in every corner of life – flows freely from a living, daring confidence in God’s grace.

This year, “God’s work. Our hands.” Sunday was scheduled for Sunday, Sept. 12, 2021. Because of local COVID numbers, St. John’s leadership decided to delay our service day until Sunday, Oct, 10, 2021. Many of our “Welcome Back” events have been cancelled or delayed due to the pandemic, but we still have the opportunity to gather together as a faith community to share the love of Jesus Christ as we serve our neighbors.

On Sunday, Oct. 10, from 1:30-5 pm we will join together to serve Isenberg Elementary.

Most of the work will be outside, providing landscaping.

We will be trimming bushes, scattering new mulch, cleaning out flower beds, weed eating, and pressure washing the sidewalk.

Darrell Blackwelder will be on hand to form teams and assign work. Mike Shelton has volunteered commercial equipment, which should help us do some of the heavy duty work more quickly, but we still need all hands on deck.

In addition to volunteers, we need outdoor equipment: wheelbarrows, weed eaters, hedge trimmers (battery operated best), hand tools for pruning plants and repotting, shovels, rakes.

There will also be opportunities for those who prefer working inside. We will have supplies available inside to prepare gift bags and thank you cards for teachers. Bring your family and help make this a gift of time and talents for one of our partners in education. All ages and skill levels are encouraged to come as we serve our community while connecting with one another!

Thrivent grants will help with supplies, but donations are welcome. Water/snacks will also be available.

Please let us know you will be joining us and any equipment items you plan to bring. CLICK HERE.
