Let go and let God!

“Let go of your concerns! Then you will know that I am God. I rule the nations, I rule the earth.”

Psalm 46:10

Anyone who knows me is aware that I have kinky curly hair. When I was younger and would go swimming or go to the beach, my hair would get the frizzies. It still does! To this day it is still frustrating as it flies around like a lion’s mane in the salty breeze. I smooth it down and comb conditioner through it. Then smooth it back and pull it up in a bun or just put on a hat. That works for a while, but eventually I have to wash and dry my hair. I don’t have to walk outside for the frizzies to reappear. I just give up! Salt air frizzy hair is what it is!

Salt air hair can remind us of the truth. Every day you have to decide who’s going to be in control of your life: you or God. There are some things that are out of our control. We have to let go and let God.

I can laugh about frizzy beach hair, but there are times in our life when situations are not so funny. Times when evil seems to win: our child is being bullied, our best friend is making a bad decision or an addiction enters our family. Maybe it’s the mothering instinct that I have, but I like to “fix” my children, my family, and those I love so deeply. I can’t shelter those I love from evil in this world, but there is one who can. My Father is a faithful God who has proved himself many times. We need to let God take control of our matters and put our trust in Him and his plan. If you try to control things that only God can control, not only are you going to lose that conflict, but you’re going to be tired.

I don’t know what you’re going to face this week. You don’t either. But I can already tell you what God wants you to do: Let go of your control and know that God is in control.

So enjoy the truth and leave the conditioner and gel behind today. Let your hair fly free as a reminder to put your trust and life in God’s hands. Let go, Let God!

Thank you father that you watch over those we love and that as we pray for them, you will continue to work in their lives through the power of your Holy Spirit. Help us Lord to entrust them to your care. Amen.
