Environmental Sustainability Program – LED Lighting

In our continued effort to be good stewards of our environment, the Property Committee has started replacing all conventional lighting with far more efficient LED lighting throughout the campus.

Improved product design and reduced costs gave the green light to the program, along with a cost savings initiative from Duke Energy. A recent energy audit shows that LED lighting offers savings of 80% per year over the existing setup.

“In all that we do with our facility decisions, we’re trying to look through the lens of good environmental stewardship,” says Jon Koppe, Facilities Manager. “It’s just the right thing to do.”

The LED lighting project joins two other sustainability projects recently implemented at St. John’s: the solar panel project and the elimination of all Styrofoam on campus.
