Independent Studies

New in 2021 is a growing list of independent studies you can access at a time that’s convenient for you.

Some of the classes are led by leaders at St. John’s. Others are led by carefully-selected teachers from throughout the country. Some will enjoy the challenge of completing a “St. John’s Certificate,” which you’ll receive after completing a certain number of independent studies. Others will be drawn to a single class that piques your interest. Join in when it’s right for you!

In an introduction to the small catechism, teachers from St. John’s and around the church will guide you through the basics of the Christian faith and life, beginning with the 10 Commandments.

The Stations of the Cross is a devotion following the events leading to Jesus’ crucifixion. Prayers accompanying it allow time to reflect on the mystery of his death

A 5-part course designed to prepare you spiritually and emotionally as you begin your biblical and theological studies. You have a desire to know more about the Bible and to develop your relationship with God. Sometimes forward movement can occur most effectively after a backward look.

From the creation of all things to the creation of Israel as a nation at Sinai, this 3-part course studies God’s process of building a nation to represent Him on earth. It is the foundation for understanding the struggles and triumphs of the relationship between God and Israel that is recorded in the rest of the Old Testament books.
