As we step into the fall…
As we step into the fall, a few things come to mind.
What a great farewell for Pastor Laura. Thank you for your warm outpouring of support and encouragement for Pastor Laura. It was a bittersweet day, no doubt, but such a lovely way of saying “thank you” for her 3 ½ years of ministry here.
COVID-19 continues. We’re not out of the woods yet, but hopefully September will see us moving in the right direction. Please know that we’re in regular contact with local health officials to form a plan that makes sense for all involved. In a place this large, there will always be folks with differing opinions, but we’re trying our best to make decisions that are based on local health data and the informed advice of our medical experts. Thank you for your patience along the way.
A new Call Committee. Carole Parrott has been tabbed to lead an excellent group of St. John’s members we now call our “Pastoral Call Committee.” Info about the committee is within this newsletter, but I would ask you to begin praying for their efforts and for the pastor God, at this very moment, is preparing to call to St. John’s. May we be filled with Spirit-led discernment along the way.
Also, do you know someone you’d like us to consider? Pass along their name to Carole or myself.
Youth Ministry. Also in this issue, you’ll read some super good info about our youth. Of most importance is that Caroline Parrott stepped forward to lead/manage youth activities while we’re searching for a new youth director. What a gift she’s giving us! We’ve assembled an All-Star team of adult advisors and a group of 6 youth who will serve as leaders for this school year. They’re enthusiastic, and we hope you are, too, as we reintroduce our youth into a regular discipline of Sunday night youth activities.
In the meantime. As we begin the process of calling a new pastor and a new youth leader, thank you for your patience. I serve alongside a remarkable group of volunteers and staff members who are working hard to manage our way through the pandemic and a pastoral vacancy. You’ve been so very kind along the way. Thank you for your continued kindness, patience, and grace as we soon move into (hopefully!) a post-COVID church, re-engaging folks in worship and ministry, so that this congregation can continue to be a bright light for the community.
Thanks so much for your partnership along the way. If you have any input or suggestions, don’t hesitate letting me know.
Our very best to you.
